- PARADOX COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
-
-
-
- INSTALL
-
- 1. Can the installation be performed from drive B?
-
- Yes, simply move to drive B: and type "INSTALL".
-
-
- 2. Can I delete any of the files in the PARADOX3 directory,
- and what is the disk space required?
-
- It is not recommended that any files be deleted from the
- PARADOX3 directory placed after installation. You should
- have approximately 2 megabytes of disk space to install
- Paradox 3.0 and its sample files.
-
- 3. +
- When I run the installation program, I cannot read the
- screen.
-
- The README file mentions a special command line switch
- used to specify if you have trouble reading the
- installation screen. Type "INSTALL -B&W" or "INSTALL -
- MONO".
-
-
- 4. What do I need to do to bring in data from other versions
- of Paradox?
-
- Tables, forms, reports, and scripts have the same
- structures from version to version. You do, however, need
- to be aware of differences in the menu selections which
- could affect existing scripts. If you are going to move a
- report or form to a lower version, you need to be sure no
- special features are included that are version specific.
-
-
- 5. The person who installed Paradox is no longer with us so
- we want to change the name on the splash screen.
-
- You will need to contact Borland Technical Support.
-
-
- 6. Paradox does not seem to recognize my expanded memory.
- How can I tell if the expanded memory is being accessed?
-
- Load Paradox by typing "PARADOX3" and pressing <Alt><F10>,
- <V>alue, and typing "MEMLEFT()". The amount of memory
- remaining will be displayed in the lower left corner of
- the screen.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Load Paradox again by typing "PARADOX3 -EMK 0" and
- pressing <Alt><F10>, <Value>, and typing "MEMLEFT()". The
- amount of memory remaining will be displayed in the lower
- left corner of the screen. (The parameter "-EMK 0" tells
- Paradox not to use expanded memory.)
-
- Compare the two values. If there is a difference, the
- expanded memory is being recognized. Refer to pages
- 272-273 of the User's Guide for a description of how
- expanded memory is utilized.
-
-
- 7. Just after installing Paradox 3.0, why can't I run the
- program?
-
- You must reboot the computer after installing Paradox so
- that any changes made to the CONFIG.SYS file will be in
- effect when you start Paradox.
-
-
- 8. When I start Paradox 3.0, I get the splash screen and the
- system stops there. Why?
-
- If you have expanded memory, try starting Paradox by
- typing "PARADOX3 -EMK 0". This will prevent Paradox from
- using expanded memory. If Paradox runs, you have an
- expanded memory conflict. See the User's Guide for more
- information on resolving this conflict.
-
-
- 9. Why can't I use the sample tables?
-
- By default, the sample tables are placed in a separate
- subdirectory. To access them, use the <T>ools, <M>ore,
- <D>irectory command to change your working directory to
- the directory in which the tables are located.
-
-
- 10. I am going through the examples in the User's Guide, but I
- cannot find the "ORDERS" table.
-
- If you did not work through ALL the examples in the
- introduction booklet, play the script "RECAP," which will
- create "ORDERS" and update the tables so they will match
- the examples in the User's Guide.
